life in a 1997 ford e350 club wagon

it took me 5 days on the road in my cramped subaru legacy to decide i was going to buy a van. it took me less than 2 weeks to buy one. i didn't even see it before i pulled the trigger.

now here's my story.

DAY 1 - THE JOURNE BEGINS

i purchased a 1997 Ford e350 Club Wagon $2,000 with 108,000 miles on it. The previous owner (lets call him Dave), had done quite a bit of work: electrical all throughout, wooden cabinets, insulated floor and ceiling, the whole nine yards.... read about it here.

this was quite a bit, but it wasn't doing it for me.

so I tore it apart. Literally. Within 2 weeks I had a mess of wires, screws, insulation, and boards filling my dads garage as I decided what was next.

next would be the fryburg fair... in 2 weeks!

every panel i tore off had to be put back on for this one. i scoured marketplace for items that i thought would fit the build, like a 12v fridge and toilet.

the biggest feat was a 54x72" bed in the rear, fit for 2 with plenty of room for storage underneath.

FIRST CAMP - FRYBURG FAIR

driving the van for the first time was horrifying. it's all over the road, i missed so many turns, and my dash kept freaking out, but we made it.

my sister joined for the night, keeping me company as i opened this new chapter.

with no insulation, nights go from cold to hot and back to cold within minutes, so the first night's sleep wasn't the greatest.

we woke up with cold food from the fridge, water to brush teeth, and wifi to check our morning notifications, life is good.

WHAT'S NEXT?

this trip helped me find everything i'd need to change before this can become a permanent solution:

  • Indoor cooking area (sink / stovetop)
  • Cabinets, drawers, and hooks for storage
  • Captains passenger chair
  • Diesel heater
  • Entertainment system

to be continued…
